STEFTI Brave swimming sensation, Jan Dwayne Malpas has proven his mettle once again with a golden win in the 50m Breaststroke (12-13 Boys) at Batang Pinoy 2024 in Puerto Princesa, Palawan from November 24-28, 2024.
Representing Region 8 with pride, Malpas, wearing his signature plain white swimming cap in the third lane, surged ahead in the final stretch of the race. Fans erupted into cheers as Malpas overtook the swimmer in the eighth lane during the final seconds, at 33.23, showcasing not just his skill but his competitive spirit.
The silver medal went to a formidable swimmer from Balanga, Bataan, following closely at 33.82, while the bronze medal was secured by a talented athlete from Pangasinan finishing the race at 34.04.
To recall, Malpas also romped away with 4 gold medals and one bronze at the Palarong Pambansa last July.
His victory marks a significant milestone for his young swimming career, cementing his status as a promising star in Philippine swimming. His incredible performance captivated the audience and set a high standard for the competition. He also garnered silver medals in 100m breaststroke and 50 m backstroke and a bronze in 200 m breaststroke in these games.
“This win means everything to me. I couldn’t have done it without my coaches, teammates, the support of my family, and above all, Daddy God. The energy of the crowd truly pushed me to give my best.”
JD Malpas shared after the race
As the Batang Pinoy games continue to celebrate young athletes across the nation, Malpas’ golden moment stands as a testament to the talent and determination of the next generation of Filipino swimmers. At present, entering Junior High School as a Gr 7 student, all eyes will now be on him as he prepares for the Eastern Visayas Regional Atheletic Meet in a more challenging race with swimmers a lot older than him in the Secondary Division. The STEFTI Family and the whole region are anticipating for more golden triumphs in his future.
We also give special thanks to the coaching brilliance of Mr. Aaron Rae Aquino Asuncion for this outstanding achievement.
