Straight from the nostalgia of being in the classroom once again for a new school year, our choir geared up for a big event: the Opening Session of the 20th Congress and the 4th State of the Nation Address.  They were invited by Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to render the Philippine National Anthem during this event at the Batasang Pambansa Complex last July 28, 2025.

This marked a historic first for the choir, as it was their debut performance at the State of the Nation Address (SONA), one of the country’s most significant political events. The choir’s participation in this high-profile occasion places them among the nation’s top musical ensembles recognized for their excellence and discipline.

Our mixed choir has gained national and international recognition, having won Gold in two categories at the prestigious Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod last year. However, performing at the SONA stood out as a milestone for the group.

“This is iconic because we will be singing in front of the country’s top political leaders — something we have never done before,” came a remark from their adviser shortly before the performance.

The group is accompanied by their trainer, Mr. Andrew Tan, STEFTI alumnus Raymund Yu, Conductor, as well the choir’s adviser Ms. Teresa Rosita Mandreza along with selected faculty members and supportive parents.

The 20th Congress Opening Session preceded President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s 4th State of the Nation Address, which drew to convene lawmakers, cabinet officials, diplomats, and other dignitaries.

The STEFTI Choir’s inclusion in the official program underscores the administration’s continued emphasis on youth talent and cultural representation during national events.
