STEFTI alumna Rachel Lynn Lesiguez and 12th Grader Danielle Anne Ricote garner recognition among youth participants all over the world as the two romped away awards in the International Model United Nations (IMUN) Online Conference from 2021 to 2022.
Last March 12-13, 2022, Lesiguez won the title “Outstanding Delegate” in IMUN Online Conference 100.0, which was proclaimed to be the highest award in the said conference. She represented the committee of UNESCO or United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization with the topic “Ensuring Quality Education & Increasing Accessibility to e-Learning for Children” as a delegate from Cuba.
On the other hand, Ricote earned the title “Special Mention” back on March 27-28, 2021 during the IMUN Online Conference 50.0, hailing from the committee of UN WOMEN 2 as a delegate of Iran discussing the topic “Ensuring Gender Equality by Alleviating Discrimination Against Women.”
Model United Nations or MUN is an educational simulation of the United Nations that involves students from various nations convening to discuss global and social issues. Because of the occurring pandemic, IMUN Online Conferences were formed and designed to give youth participants the real IMUN experience, from the comfort of their own homes. Conducted discussions include a large variety of topics from economic issues to human rights, which then aims for participants to gain deeper knowledge in such and strengthen their diplomatic skills as well.
I give credit to my mentors in STEFTI Debaters Guild and the Herald Tribune for training me in the field of public speaking and journalism. Thank you, dear teachers!, quipped Lesiguez, the single outstanding delegate of this convention.
